Artist's Statement

Caroline Wisler's work is an exploration of a ‘sense of place’. She considers how we ground ourselves within our environment, asking questions about our connection to landscape and how we exist within that space. She investigates what physical aspects tie us to place, and which emotions, memories, and perceptions hold us there.

Caroline has lived in and experienced many different countries, cultures, and environments. This constant relocation has informed her understanding of place, helping her become more attuned to her surroundings.

By establishing and developing layers of acrylic, oil, pastel, and cyanotype to construct a narrative of the landscape, she captures her observations of the environment around her. By slowly unveiling the structure of the landscape through contour, form, colour, and texture she communicates the beauty, atmosphere, and connection to the environment she now finds herself in.
